The beauty that already exists...

 Hello reader,

I have found myself lately lost in the quote that states, "Make up is not a tool that is meant to make an ugly thing beautiful, it is simply a tool to enhance the beauty that already exists". Weddings have easily become my favorite thing to do in this industry and every time I am with a bride on their special day I can't help but think back to this quote. What I love most about hair and makeup on brides is it is not about the contouring of the face or pining the hair up just right...it's more about the radiance and confidence the bride shows after looking in the mirror for the first time. It is seeing her own beauty and power enhanced from within that is truly breathtaking. Being the hair and makeup artist for a bride can be somewhat stressful I mean heck you mess up, she is stuck with the pictures and videos that prove it for the rest of her life! Not to mention the early mornings to get them ready or maybe even the "bridezilla" but at the end of the day when you watch that beautiful bride walk down the isle to her groom and see everyones reaction it makes every second worth it. I will always love styling brides on their wedding day. I mean who doesn't love the magic that day brings?

From a childs dream to reality...

Hello reader,

Starting this journey and pursuing a career in hair/makeup was something I had talked about since I was a little girl. Some could say my passion for beauty started when I began doing hair and makeup for friends, high school dances, and weddings but really it started long before that...Growing up I would play with my baby dolls or barbies and eventually playing resulted in me styling and cutting their hair. I can say that this is where my interest in cosmetology truly began. From there I went to school for dental assisting. I thought about being a dance major and I also tried elementary education. Finally, I decided to follow my heart and take that little girl dream and turn it into my reality. This was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made in my life. Why you might ask? Family members and friends were not too hip on the idea of a cosmetologist as my career path. I was even told by some that I would never make a living and it was a waste of a brain. They did everything they could to sway my decision. I will admit, being the people pleaser I am I pushed my dream aside and decided to do it "their way" at least for a while. After months of not being happy another side of me kicked in..."I'm going to prove them all wrong, watch me". Once I had started cosmetology school and my family and friends could see my love for it they finally started coming around. I mean heck they like the perks they can come to me for all their hair, nails, makeup, and eyelash needs!

Now lets fast forward to six months into hair school. I started doing more and more clients and weddings and eventually I was lucky enough to have my work published not once but three times in different magazines! This was a very exciting moment for me and made me realize even more that this is what I want to be doing the rest of my life! Now I have been in the apprenticeship program for almost nine months and I have enjoyed every minute of learning from the awesome stylists and barbers around me each day. I also keep that little voice of everyone doubting me and my choice in the back of my head. It gives me even more drive to keep growing and to strive to be successful in everything I do. With every clients color, cut, style, nails, eyelashes, and makeup application I love this industry even more. I am continually building my clientele and I can't wait to keep meeting new people and making them feel even more confident in their own skin. Catch ya next time!
